Homage, nod, influence, replication or blatant rip-off. Whatever you'd like to call it poster art is the visual introduction to a movie and should be just as important as the film itself. And when it comes to horror the potential for imagination and originality opens into an even wider spectrum. But whether it comes down to a small marketing budget, a lazy promo team or generally uninspired graphic designers there are many examples in the genre that appear to be lifting ideas from other existing posters. Often an initially impressive one-sheet concept soon tails off when it becomes apparent that ideas and layouts may have been 'borrowed' from other sources. This month we take a look at a small selection of such artwork that 'unofficially' appear to have come to fruition via more promintent 'influences'.
